Action Alert: The Smokefree Air Bill Will be Taken up on Monday

Dear Indiana Campaign for Smokefree Air supporter,

This is it! The Smokefree Air bill (House Bill 1149) has been introduced by State Representatives Eric Turner and Charlie Brown and it looks like it has the potential to move through the legislature very quickly.

Members of the Indiana Campaign for Smokefree Air have had the opportunity to meet with several state lawmakers this week, and while we don’t think that this legislation represents a completely perfect bill, House Bill 1149 represents a great opportunity to move this issue forward. We are encouraging the bill sponsors and all of our supporters to protect Hoosier workers and fight against hostile amendments that would reduce the effectiveness of this bill. As always, the goal of the Indiana Campaign for Smokefree Air is to pass the strongest bill possible and we are continuing to work towards a day when every single worker in Indiana is covered by a smokefree law.

Here’s what we need you to do right now:

On Monday, this bill will be heard in the House Public Health Committee. We do not know if they will vote it out of committee, but that is a possibility. We need you to send an email to these lawmakers and tell them that you support smokefree air and you want them to pass the strongest bill possible.
